Quad City Symphony Runs Masterworks V

Quad City Youth Symphony Orchestra will run Masterworks V from Mar 7, 2010 till Mar 8, 2010, with Mark Russell Smith as a conductor.

FRANZ SCHUBERT Symphony No. 8 “Unfinished”
ANTON BRUCKNER Symphony No. 9

Masterworks V brings together two works renowned as classics in spite of their incomplete nature. The two completed movements of Schubert’s Eighth Symphony were premiered five years before the composer’s death.

While sketches of other movements make it clear the Schubert always intended two more movements for this symphony, the two-movement version performed today has become one of the most cherished of Schubert’s symphonies.

The interruption in Bruckner’s composition of his Ninth Symphony was more sudden, leaving the three completed movements to posthumous publication. In spite of this curtailment, the cathedrals of sound built by Bruckner’s final symphony, a work he dedicated “to the beloved God,” reveal clearly the talent graced upon this deeply religious man. -- www.qcsymphony.com
