Gagosian Gallery Exhibits Douglas Gordon

DOX Centre for Contemporary art will present an extensive exhibition of the work of one of the world's most respected representatives of contemporary art, Scottish artist Douglas Gordon, from the 4th of June until the 27th of September 2009. This is his first exhibition in the Czech Republic.

The exhibition is named Douglas Gordon: Blood, Sweat and Tears and will run from June 4 to September 29, 2009.

Douglas Gordon studied at the Glasgow School of Art, when it was led by an artist of Czech origin, Pavel Buchler, whom the Scottish artist considers to this day as his mentor. Gordon initially gained his fame by his work 24 Hour Psycho, which consists of a slowed down projection of Hitchcock's film, lasting twenty four hours. His next big success came with the feature film, a document about the legendary football player: Zidane, Portrait of the 21. Century (created in collaboration Phillip Parreno and presented at the Cannes film festival in 2006).

Douglas Gordon has had more that 100 solo exhibitions on almost all continents and has received many prestigious international prizes, including: the Turner Prize (1996), the Venice Biennale Prize (1997), the Hugo Boss Prize (1998) and the Roswitha Haftmann Prize (2008). Beside shows in New York's MOMA (2006) and the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin (2005), there were exhibitions of his work at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh and the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg (2007).

As part of the Accompanying Programs - Cafe DOX, there will be a lecture series and presentations dedicated to themes, which Gordon addresses in his work, memory and identity, good versus evil, and the relationship of film to art. -- www.gagosian.com
