The Denver Art Museum kicks off Friday night with its mixedmedia event series Untitled on Friday, June 26, from 6 to 10 pm. Combining music, detours, art making, munchies and a cash bar, the final Friday of the month gets started at the DAM. Untitled #22 (Ps & Qs) takes visitors through the dos and don’ts of art handling and museum rituals.
The Post Secret Project comes to Untitled. Visitors can participate in the ongoing community art project that encourages people to confess their deepest secret or fear and send it anonymously to the project. Post Secret has a blog that showcases new submissions and has also created numerous books that allow people to confess how they’re not minding their Ps and Qs.
Visitors can mix it up but still mind their manners with several off-beat activities. Follow the rituals of a traditional tea ceremony while surrounded by beautiful art. A renowned tea master sets up shop in the Japan gallery to demonstrate the refined art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Once you’ve mastered that ritual, move on to our Art Handling 101 class. Learn the dos and don’ts of handling and preserving art from a museum professional. Don’t forget which fork to use or where your napkin goes again. Take a lesson from an etiquette expert as they reveal the proper way to mind your Ps and Qs.
Untitled has loads of local entertainment to keep guests dancing inside the lines. Listen to the sounds of local bands b.sous and Elin Palmer or groove to the beats DJs Funky Punks. Buntport Theater performs another installment of the Joan and Charlie Show in the third floor freight elevator. Find out if Joan is following all the rules or if Charlie has to step in.
The final Friday of the month, the Denver Art Museum feels less like a field trip and more like a night out. The series runs through September 2009 with new themes, activities and bands each month. This season includes July Untitled #23 (Old School) which gives visitors a taste of fierce fashion and an epic ride through the Museum’s collections, August Untitled #24 (Crossbones) lets guests explore their morbid side and September Untitled #25 (Herd) rounds everyone up for collaborative art making. -- www.denverartmuseum.org
