The Producers tells the story of the impossibly charismatic duo, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, as the wily producers who cook the books and conspire to produce the worst musical ever. The show won an unprecedented twelve Tony Awards (including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Actor and Best Original Score) and has been hailed ‘a gift from the show-biz gods.’ (Time Magazine).

Christopher Biggins is no stranger to being the perfect host after winning Channel 4’s reality dinner party show Celebrity Come Dine With Me earlier this year! He is most famous for starring in the popular TV comedy Porridge as the character Lukewarm alongside Ronnie Barker as well as appearing in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Rentaghost and numerous pantomimes. He also became the fifth male winner of the popular ITV jungle reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2007. Biggins will join other VIPs on opening night, including Gemma Craven - famous for her role in Pennies from Heaven - local celebrity and producer Keith Harris, Tony Jo and other invited guests.

Executive Producer, Tony Stone, said “It’s absolutely great that we can have such a famous and well liked celebrity with us on opening night, and I am sure the audience will welcome him in true Blackpool fashion when he introduces the show. The cast are fantastic and eager to perform this amazing piece of musical comedy. I can guarantee the audience will be in stitches of laughter for the whole evening.”

Premier Theatre Company is famous for its ground-breaking productions and makes a welcome return to the Grand following its outstanding successes with Chess The Musical, Mack and Mabel, Ragtime The Musical and Jane Eyre The Musical.

Betty Legs Diamond (leading lady at Funny Girls, Blackpool) will star as Scott the Choreographer and two local actors have also landed the leading roles of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, who will be played by Chris Campbell and Andy Figg. The leading lady, Ulla, goes to St Annes dance teacher, Sarah Appleton and the rest of the cast will come from right across the North West. Simon Green (Betty Legs Diamond) is also to choreograph this exciting production, along with Kelvin Futers as Musical Directors and Sarah Jane Stone as Artistic Director.

The Oscar-winning 1968 movie of The Producers starred Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder as the down on his luck producer and his accountant with their get rich quick plan and it became a Broadway sensation. The recent UK sell-out stage tour starred North West comedian Peter Kay, while the 2005 film remake starred Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman. -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
