This exhibition will look at the enduring appeal of plants and flowers in the home and will investigate the meanings and values associated with indoor plants.
It will explore what role houseplants and arranged flowers play in homemaking and in the psychology of the home, whilst taking into account changing fashions and tastes.
The strong links between home and garden will be highlighted by special displays in all of the museum’s period rooms (1600 to the present), and also in the exhibition gallery, which will focus on the long 19th century (1800-1914), a period when domestic gardening and an interest in bringing plants and flowers indoors grew exponentially. -- www.geffrye-museum.org.uk
