Washington Museum Exhibits Curt Walters

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, Washington will run an exhibition named 'Moments and Monuments: The Plein Aire and Studio Paintings of Curt Walters' from August 13, 2009 to December 13, 2009.

Curt Walters received the Quest Artist of Distinction Award, presented by a member of the Western Art Society, at the Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West Art Show and Sale in 2008. He was awarded with a one-person exhibition of his work in the Gerald and Dorit Paul Gallery, on the Museum’s second floor.

Considered by many to be the greatest living Grand Canyon artist, Curt Walters paints the Canyon in all its rugged beauty in every season and from a myriad of vantage points. He depicts in color and light the lyrical, reverent awe one feels when standing before that immense, yawning Canyon.

Walters reveals his subjects gradually and dramatically across the surface of the canvas. Snow-capped peaks glisten on a precipice in the midday sun or the last, warm glow of the setting sun reflects on the ancient rocks while the Canyon slips into the cold shadow of night. Working outside, en plain aire, Walters spends many hours over multiple days painting to ensure he depicts “the accumulations of the moments of a day, pulled in together.”

A world-traveler, Walters paints everywhere he travels and works in the exhibition reflect this along with works from his trips throughout the American West. From timeless western canyons to timeworn European cathedrals, you will experience the color, beauty, light, and moments of the work of one of our greatest Western artists, on display in Moments and Monuments: The Plein Aire and Studio Paintings of Curt Walters.
