Opera North, England will present "The Idea of North: Winterreise" scheduled for play in autumn 2009.
“Neudecker shows herself as remarkably gifted with film as with model-making and sculpture. I don't know why she never wins the Turner Prize…” The Observer
An evening of performance, film and music, Schubert’s pinnacle song cycle, Winterreise peers deep into the soul of a rejected lover who travels to the door of the woman he loves; only to be faced by a frozen landscape of snow covered roads, hovering crows and deserted villages.
Bringing this tragic tale to life is singer Andrew Foster-Williams and pianist Christopher Gould, combined with 24 short films by internationally renowned visual artist Mariele Neudecker, made during her own Winter's journey from Shetland to St Petersburgh. -- www.operanorth.co.uk
