Blackpool Theatre Invites To Halloween Festival

Supernatural Events, which presents ghost tours, investigations and other paranormal-based events at some of the town’s most famous attractions, will be helping Blackpool celebrate Hallowe’en 2009 in spooky style.

From Sunday 25th October to Saturday 31st October (Hallowe’en Night), Blackpool will see in the scary season with an exciting new festival – SpookFest – celebrating seven days of the supernatural.

The festival has been created by Supernatural Events’ founder and Grand Theatre marketing manager, Stephen Mercer. He said: “I have wanted to present a festival celebrating Hallowe’en for some time and this year it will finally happen. With ghost tours, investigations, a murder mystery night, terrifying storytelling, workshops, a clairvoyant evening and even a theatrical representation of a Victorian spirit seance, it’s going to be a scary seven days for Blackpool!”

On Sunday 25th October, Para-Projects, the team behind the television hit television show Spook School, will be presenting two workshops: Are You Psychic? at 4pm is an interactive workshop, where participants will take part in a range of fun experiments including dowsing, ESP, remote viewing and psychokinesis, to see if they have any latent psychic abilities. At 7.30pm budding paranormal investigators can find out more about the Scientific Guide to Ghost Hunting in the second workshop. With over 30 years experience in conducting scientific-based investigations, Para-Projects will share their expertise in this hands-on workshop which will include experiments and demonstrations on subjects such as the history of the orb phenomena and best methods to use to increase your chance of capturing paranormal activity on film, audio and video.

On Monday 26th October at 7.30pm in the Lawrence House Studio at the Grand, Supernatural Events will present Britain's Got The Spook Factor - who killed Simon Howl... by Zoe & Ian Lamond. With ghosts, vampires, werewolves and witches, will you join us for SpookFest's first Murder Mystery Night?

From 10pm to 12 midnight on Monday 26th October, you can enjoy(!) a Ghost Tour at Blackpool Zoo. The zoo, which opened on 6 July 1972, has quite a history of paranormal activities occurring; and that is not surprising when you look at the background of the buildings and the land it was built on! It was the site of the original Blackpool Municipal Aerodrome which was in operation during World War II. Will it just be the animals that shriek?

On Tuesday 27th October, the Ghost Tours continue with a visit to one of the most popular locations; the Spanish Hall Suite within the Winter Gardens complex. Many who have already wandered through the Suite have tales of their own to tell of sightings and strange noises. Book your place now and find out for yourself what goes on in these haunted halls!

On Wednesday 28th October will you walk to the end of the pier for a Ghost Tour of the North Pier Theatre? The eerie investigation starts at 11pm and for two hours you can hear some of the tales that cannot be explained and see for yourself what happens in the darkened auditorium and stage areas.

Celebrated psychic and medium Helen Chadwick returns to the Grand Theatre’s, Blackpool’s Lawrence House Studio on Thursday 29th October at 7.30pm with An Evening of Spiritual Mediumship. Helen uses her gift of clear-seeing to pass on messages from loved ones in the spirit world. These evenings are not just about psychic readings of those attending. Supernatural Events will return to its spiritual home at the Grand Theatre later on Thursday evening with a Ghost Tour at the most popular haunted location in Blackpool! Starting at 11pm and ending at 1am, you will have the opportunity to wander through this beautiful Victorian theatre and investigate the reported sightings and spooky sounds for yourself. You will get to visit the auditorium, stage, under stage areas to see if you can experience anything eerie in the location that many investigators and psychics have said to be one of the most haunted locations in the UK!

On Friday 30th and Saturday 31st (Hallowe'en) October at 7.30pm, Supernatural Events and Leslie Melville’s Theatre of the Dark will present an evening of storytelling with tales of murder, madmen, vampires and ghosts followed by a re-enactment of a Victorian spirit seance. Join William Warlock, the Victorian teller of classic horror stories as he takes you literally to the edge in true gothic storytelling style with Terrifying Tales, then after the interval you can witness a theatrical representation of A Victorian Spirit Seance that took place in 1868 at the home of George Hammond, a wealthy City of London banker. Be careful though, you could be one of several members of the audience who will be invited to participate in A Victorian Spirit Seance!

From 11pm to 1am, there is another opportunity to take a Ghost Tour at The Grand Theatre.

SpookFest ends with a fantastic Overnight Ghost Investigation at the Blackpool Opera House on Hallowe’en Night, Saturday 31st October when those attending will have the opportunity to investigate areas such as the auditorium, bars and stage areas. Included in the Overnight Ghost Investigation, which starts at 11pm, ending at 4am, will be experiments, investigations and full use of paranormal investigative equipment. -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
