Opera Carolina Plays Otello

Opera Carolina, Charlotte will play Otello based on Shakespeare's Othello on Thursday, May 6th, 2010 at 7:30pm at the Belk Theater.

The dramatic tragedy of one man’s path to self-destruction is magnificently set to music in Verdi’s masterpiece, Otello, based on Shakespeare’s Othello.

As a tempestuous storm batters the island of Cyprus, Otello’s ship battles its way into port. Otello proclaims victory over the Turks and the storm, and yearns for his reunion with his beautiful bride, Desdemona. Yet, his triumph is short-lived as he becomes riddled with self-doubt and jealousy.

Escalated by innuendos and compromising situations fabricated by the villainous Iago, who is driven by his hatred of Otello, the tragedy crescendos in a heartbreaking conclusion where even love is not strong enough to prevail. -- www.operacarolina.org
