Opera North Presents EXPO Leeds Launch

Opera North, England will present EXPO Leeds Launch Event on Friday 25 September 2009, at 7.45pm.

Expo Leeds presents a new and intriguing evening of sound, performance and music with four of today’s leading international artists. An audio journey into imagined and real sound environments, from historic industrial spaces in Leeds, through cities and villages, all the way to the metropolis of the future. An artistic expedition led by audio artists Lee Patterson, Chris Watson, Yannick Dauby and Peter Cusack.

Lee Patterson is inspired by everyday sounds, from the sound of the roadside to the secret language of underwater insects and plants.

Chris Watson is one of the world’s leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena. The unearthly groaning of ice in an Icelandic glacier is a classic example of, in Watson’s words, putting a microphone where you can’t put your ears.

Yannick Dauby is a field recordist with a particular interest in animal and environment sounds as well as urban and industrial.

Peter Cusack is an artist and musician, best-known for his involvement in avant-guard musical quartet Alterations (1978 – 1986) and his wildlife recording based albums. -- www.operanorth.co.uk
