Seattle Symphony announces the 2009–2010 WolfGang season with special events and two concert series. WolfGang is Seattle Symphony’s young patrons group, comprising of people in their 20s and 30s who share a passion for symphonic music. The 13th WolfGang Season kicks off with a party at POST, Post Alley’s newest restaurant and bar, on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m.
Prospective members can learn about the upcoming season’s offerings and enjoy live music performed by a Seattle Symphony musician.
This season, WolfGang offers two subscription series: the WolfGang series and the Symphony Specials series, each featuring pre- or post-concert receptions at trendy downtown restaurants and bars. The WolfGang series begins November 5 with Leonidas Kavakos performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. On February 22, members will experience a recital by famed violinist Joshua Bell accompanied by pianist Jeremy Denk. The series concludes on April 22 with Roberto Abbado conducting Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The Symphony Specials series includes performances by celebrated pianist Lang Lang on November 1, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, featuring the Seattle Symphony Chorale on December 30, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition led by Music Director Gerard Schwarz on April 2.
Founded in 1996, WolfGang was the brainchild of a group of Seattle Symphony volunteers in their 20s and 30s who were passionate about live symphonic music and the opportunity to socialize with others who shared that passion. The group started with 12 core members and has grown to a membership of more than 200 regular subscribers, led by a volunteer advisory council. Along with an increase in membership, WolfGang can now be found on Facebook.
“People often ask me what makes WolfGang so special,” says WolfGang President Leah Hausman, “and I respond with the same answer—because it’s fun! WolfGang offers Seattle’s young professional crowd a winning combination of great people, live symphonic music, and a variety of fun events throughout the year. I’m particularly excited about our 2009—2010 concert season, which features everything from world-renowned guest artists Lang Lang and Joshua Bell to beloved classical works such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. WolfGang is an affordable opportunity to experience the best of Seattle’s creativity and culture.”
WolfGang members experience symphonic music with other young patrons and enjoy additional membership benefits, including 20% off selected Seattle Symphony concerts; invitations to special pre-and post-concert events; wine tastings at concert intermission; membership parties; free birthday tickets; and a 10% discount at Symphonica, The Symphony Store. -- www.seattlesymphony.org
