Utah Symphony, Salt Lake City will play Romeo & Juliet with Julian Kuerti as conductor and Lori Wike as bassoon. Performances will take place at Abravanel Hall.
Melodic, sensuous, and overtly Romantic, Berlioz’s symphonic poem Romeo et Juliette will be complemented by another piece inspired by Shakespeare, Smetana’s Richard III. Between the two pieces, John Williams’ The Five Sacred Trees will invoke the inspiration and magic of the Celtic culture from which The Bard himself evolved.
Performance details are as follows:
Bedrich Smetana – Richard III, op.11
John Williams – The Five Sacred Trees
Hector Berlioz – Romeo et Juliette, op. 17: Selections
