Fort Worth Opera Plays Don Giovanni

Fort Worth Opera will play Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on May 20 and June 4, 2010, performed in Italian with projected English translations.

First performed in 1787 Don Giovanni is a masterpiece by the musical genius of Mozart and librettist Lorenzo da Ponte. Today it is still one of the most frequently performed operas.

A bundle of contradictions, the creators termed it a dramma giocoso or “joking drama” because it’s not a comedy or a drama - like life - it is both.

Don Giovanni is a playboy who loves and then leaves women at a shocking rate, despite the warnings of his faithful servant. When young and beautiful Donna Anna catches his eye, an old flame, Donna Elvira, sets out to stop him from taking advantage of her. But all hell breaks loose when Don Giovanni crosses the line. -- www.fwopera.org
