Sydney Opera Plays Jouissance

Sydney Opera House will play Jouissance playing on 2009-10-11, at the Utzon Room.

The ensemble Jouissance was formed to explore the dialogues between ancient chant and contemporary culture, and the musicians share a fascination with the mysticism, sensuality and rapture found in the works of Hildegard of Bingen, Peter Abelard and the Byzantine Rite.

Since its inception in 1994, Jouissance has performed at major arts festivals such the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Melbourne International Arts Festival, as well as touring to Norway and Estonia.

Their extraordinary fusion of old and new, East and West, Latin and Byzantine is an enthralling experience; meditative, impassioned, sensual and uplifting.

‘…it is a rare pleasure to find such luscious new work.’ Real Time --
