Kansas University Students Win Big At Design Competition

Students and recent graduates in the Department of Design at the University of Kansas walked away big winners at the third annual American Institute of Graphic Artists Kansas City Design Awards. The event, also known as A3 Awards, took place Jan. 19 in Kansas City, Mo. KU received 27 awards at the competition - the most awards given to a participating group.

"This year was especially impressive for our design students and recent alumni, as we took home the highest number of awards from the AIGA competition," said Andrea Herstowski Wertzberger, assistant professor of design. "We are so excited that our students' exceptional works are being recognized by such an esteemed association."

The American Institute of Graphic Artists is a professional association created to stimulate thinking about design through ideas and information, the promotion of critical analysis and research, and the advancement of education and ethical practice. The awards program was created in 2004 to follow the institute's mission to advance and promote the power of design in its economic, social, political, cultural and creative contexts. The awards are juried by nationally acclaimed design leaders, recognizing exceptional works created by students and design professionals in the greater Kansas City area.

KU's winners are listed below by hometown, year in school, major, parents' names and high schools, if available, and the projects and categories for which they received awards. Recent graduates won for work completed in their senior years. -- www2.ku.edu
