Young, vivacious American conductor Michael Christie leads a series of three outstanding concerts featuring dynamic soloists Edgar Meyer and the Dallas Symphony's own Mary Preston. The evening begins with Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani - a work that displays the gamut of the composer's style, ranging from cheeky burlesque to gothic.
Prominent instrumentalist and composer Edgar Meyer performs one of his own works, Concerto No. 2 for double bass & orchestra, featuring Meyer on the double bass. The McDermott Concert Hall will be filled with visions of Tuscan villas and rolling green hills as the DSO performs Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony, inspired by the composer's trip to the country, and Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien, a colorful work filled with luscious Italian melodies. The March 16th Casual Friday concert will feature an abbreviated program.
The concerts will take place on March 15 - 18 (Michael Christie - conductor, Mary Preston - organ, Edgar Meyer - bass). Tickets range from $15 to $100. -- www.dallassymphony.com
