Topping food news today is the story of a Florida Keys deputy who assisted our hungry four-legged pal with a Doritos bag stuck on his head.
Admit it – We’ve all raised the chip bag to our mouths to pour out the last handful of crumbs. For a deer, the equivalent of that is just to go bobbing for the leftover morsels, head first.
Based on the picture of the Doritos bag, it appears that the deer’s choice of nacho chip is the Salsa Verde flavor, although I think it’s safe to assume any Doritos chip would get the attention of our animal friends.
Two patrolling Monroe County sheriff deputies discovered the deer late Saturday evening and snapped a photo of the unusual problem. The officers reportedly spotted the deer near the Port Pine Heights subdivision of Big Pine Key, Fla.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin says the deer did not run off, but allowed Deputy Joshua Gordon to remove the bag without putting up much of a fuss.
“It must have wanted that last chip at the bottom of the bag. I think it wanted that bag off,” Deputy Herrin explained.
Officials said that they do not believe anyone purposely “bagged” the deer, which certainly would be difficult to do. It appears the deer was aiming for those bits at the bottom of the bag. The incident does highlight the need to avoid littering and properly dispose of trash.
Animals likely should not eat corn chips as part of their diet, and humans likely should not eat sandwiches made with doughnuts, but who can argue the logic in combining two American favorites.
After Dunkin' Donuts recently introduced a new Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich, Krispy Kreme is getting in the news with a Sloppy Joe fried treat.
Chicken Charlies, a California-based restaurant, is a mainstay at county fairs. According to their website, Chicken Charlies is the “home of creative culinary concoctions and all things Deep Fried.”
At the San Diego Fair this year, Charlies is turning heads with a savory-sweet creation: A Sloppy Joe sandwich made on two glazed Krispy-Kreme doughnuts that serve as buns.
“Your stomach will thank you!” reads the eatery's Facebook post announcing the sandwich.
Your heart however may offer a different opinion. If you’ve tried the Sloppy Joe doughnut sandwich, leave your opinion below.
