Known for his eight years on "Full House"Â and as the host of "America's Funniest Home Videos"Â and "One vs. 100,"Â when Bob Saget takes the stage, he totally tweaks that image with his fast-paced, adult-oriented humor. There's something utterly hilarious about seeing the clean cut, boyishly charming Saget embracing his dark side as he completely contradicts his TV image, and on Friday, March 16, Bob brings his no-holds-barred sense of humor to the McCallum Theatre at 8pm.
Saget got his start in comedy clubs working alongside other struggling comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and Billy Crystal. Each took their own route to fame - Bob's was starring in the role of Danny Turner on the sitcom, "Full House,"Â and hosting his other primetime series hit - "America's Funniest Home Videos."Â This made Saget the only actor to star in two top-10 TV series simultaneously.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Lexington, Virginia, Bob returned to Philly for high school and then attended Temple University where his talents as a filmmaker emerged. In 1977, he produced a student film, "Through Adam's Eyes,"Â which was honored with an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards.
Known for his mild, family-friendly manner, Saget's stand-up act is infamous for his raunchy, unabashedly vulgar routines. His brief appearance in the movie, "Half Baked"Â shocked many viewers who were not familiar with Saget's standup material. In addition, his performance of the traditional joke "The Aristocrats" in the 2005 movie of the same name is arguably one of the foulest telling in the film.
Bob's latest project is a new film entitled, "Farce of the Penguins," an R-rated parody of the hugely successful Academy Award winning, "March of the Penguins,"Â this time narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, and starring the voice-over talents of Christina Applegate, Lewis Black, Mo'Nique, Tracy Morgan, and scores of comedy star cameo appearances, such as Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Norm MacDonald, Gilbert Gottfried, Jonathan Silverman, Jonathan Katz, Jason Alexander, Jamie Kennedy, and many more.
Saget's sister died of scleroderma, and her life was the inspiration for the television movie, "For Hope,"Â which Bob directed. Saget is a board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation and is on the board of the Starlight/Starbright Children's Foundation.
Bob Saget brings his unique, adult-oriented sense of humor to the McCallum Theatre on Friday, March 16 at 8pm. Tickets are $75/55/45/35. -- www.mccallumtheatre.com
