Saint Louis Art Museum Presents British Works On Paper

The Saint Louis Art Museum announces the opening of British Works on Paper, 1850-1880, a selection of nine British etchings, watercolors, drawings and photographs complementary to the current exhibition Waking Dreams: The Art of the Pre-Raphaelites from the Delaware Art Museum.

Through portraits and landscapes, the artists featured in this exhibition emphasize truthfulness to nature, providing a broad context for the work of the Pre-Raphaelites. The exhibition features Father Taking Leave, a print by Pre-Raphaelite member William Holman Hunt, as well as beautiful impressions by noted printmaker Francis Seymour Haden and two artists often associated with the Pre-Raphaelites, Julie Margaret Cameron and John Ruskin.

Curated by Eric Lutz, assistant curator of prints, drawings, and photographs, British Works on Paper will be on view in Gallery 321 through May 20, 2007.

The Saint Louis Art Museum is one of the nation's leading comprehensive art museums with collections that include works of art of exceptional quality from virtually every culture and time period. Areas of notable depth include Oceanic art, pre-Columbian art, ancient Chinese bronzes, and European and American art of the late 19th and 20th centuries, with particular strengths in 20th-century German art. The Art Museum offers a full range of exhibitions and educational programming generated independently and in collaboration with local, national, and international partners. -- www.stlouis.art.museum
