Russians Climb 'Forbes' Billionaire List

"Forbes" magazine says Russia now has 53 billionaires in dollar terms -- the third most in the world after the United States and Germany.

The magazine notes that the cumulative worth of the Russian billionaires is $282 billion -- higher than the total of the German billionaires. It also says that the average age of Russia's billionaires is 46 -- 16 years younger than the 62-years average of other billionaires.

Russia's richest is Roman Abramovich, ranking 16th in the world with $18.7 billion, according to "Forbes."

The magazine says that with $56 billion, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates is the world's richest man for the 13th straight year.

"Forbes" adds that there are now a record 946 billionaires in the world, up from 793 in its 2006 survey, and their combined worth totals some $3.5 trillion.

The magazine said its billionaire list now features 53 countries -- this year including the first billionaires from Serbia and Romania.
