Extreme Networks Endorses Provider Backbone Transport

Telecommunications Magazine/Infonetics Research Webinar to Debate the Newest Standards and Advances for Carrier Ethernet

Extreme Networks

Extreme Networks, Inc. today announced that it will be participating in a joint Telecommunications and Infonetics Research webinar on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 to debate the merits of Provider Backbone Transport (PBT) versus Transport MPLS (T-MPLS) for building revenue-generating carrier Ethernet networks.

New standards are in the works to make Ethernet a robust transport technology that can be used in place of SONET/SDH in metro aggregation and metro core networks. With the emergence of PBT, a technology that combines SONET/SDH like connections with the simplicity and economics of Ethernet and T-MPLS, which takes a similar approach, but from an MPLS perspective, a debate is underway over technology choices for the building of carrier Ethernet networks.

Which path to carrier-class Ethernet transport will attract more service providers? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each approach? This webinar examines these questions and more, detailing the merits and limitations of PBT and T-MPLS - Extreme Networks.
