Militants attacked a Nigeria LNG(NLNG)ferry Monday afternoon and killed two Nigerian police escorts in desperate search for foreign oil workers to kidnap.

Militants attacked a Nigeria LNG ferry Monday afternoon and killed the two Nigerian police escorts in desperate search for foreign oil workers to kidnap.

The Nigeria LNG ferry was carrying dozens of NLNG staff from the NLNG jetty in Port Harcourt to the Bonny NLNG Plant complex when the militants in their faster speedboats attacked the ferry with the aim of kidnapping foreign oil workers. They gunned down the two police escorts, and then searched the ferry for any foreign oil worker. But, when they found none, they left and disappeared into the creeks.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has been threatening to launch attacks on the Nigeria LNG Plant on Bonny Island.
MEND has been fighting for resource control and better welfare for the host communities of the multinational oil companies in the region. And thousands of foreign oil workers have fled in fear of the dangers of working in the Niger Delta.

Militants and other armed groups have been attacking and kidnapping scores of foreign oil workers in the Niger Delta in exchange for ransom.
