On Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Guest Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto and guest violinist Nicola Benedetti will present a program of especially diverse works.
Silvestre Revueltas's Redes (Nets), written for a social protest movie, bursts with energy, instrumental color, and sardonic humor.
Scottish-born 19-year-old wunderkind violinist Nicola Benedetti performs the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, a pillar of the violin concerto repertoire, and James MacMillan's From Ayrshire, which MacMillan wrote in response to a request from fellow Ayrshire native Nicola Benedetti for a new work. Guest Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto and the DPO close the concert with Brahms's Fourth Symphony, his last and a milestone of solemn tone, conspicuous complexity, and stunning structure.
Prior to the concert at 7 pm, Guest Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto will host a Take Note discussion in the Mead Theatre. Nicola Benedetti is the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Endowed Young Classical Artist. Tickets are $11 - $58. -- www.daytonphilharmonic.com
