Portland Symphony Presents Youth Concert

The Portland Symphony Orchestra presents a fun and informative Youth Concert on Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27 at 9:30 and 11:10 a.m. in Merrill Auditorium featuring the award-winning folk ensemble, Le Vent du Nord as well as special guest meteorologists Joe Cupo and Kevin Mannix from WCSH6.

The PSO, with guest conductor, Daniel Meyer, will perform music inspired by stormy weather with the Quebecois group, Le Vent du Nord. Audience members will have an opportunity to hear unusual instruments such as the hurdy gurdy and the bodhran while enjoying foot-stomping tunes.

PSO's Youth Concerts introduce students ages 8 to 13 to the full symphony orchestra. Students experience richly diverse styles of music while learning about the elements of orchestral music and the instruments that perform it. In addition, PSO provides participating schools with lesson plans written by area music teachers and recordings of the music to help prepare the students. Lesson plans and program notes can be downloaded at http://www.portlandsymphony.com.

Tickets to the Youth Concerts are $5 per person; for groups of 25 or more, tickets are $4 per person. The 11:10 performances on both dates are sold out, and limited seating is available for both 9:30 shows. -- www.portlandsymphony.com
