In the first of three concerts (Saturday 24 March, 8pm) in the intimate setting of the Art Gallery of WA, West Australian Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of music by Beethoven, Bartok and Mills, directed by concertmaster John Harding. Hosted by Gallery Director Alan R. Dodge, the concert will showcase the talents of the WASO with soloists Margaret Blades on violin and Allan Meyer on clarinet.
As Mr Dodge states, "The Art Gallery of Western Australia is proud to partner the West Australian Symphony in its 'WASO at the Gallery' series. For the Gallery, the series allows us to mix an experience of art and music under one roof, providing an unparalleled visual and aural experience. Each concert is chosen as an adventure of both new and historical music and features a fine line-up of musicians and performers. For me personally, it is a great privilege to bring music of such a high standard into the Gallery and to be able to present the works along with a great orchestra."Â
This program, rich with melodies, will take the audience on an emotional journey through Bartok's elegaic Divertimento for Strings, to the rolling romantic passages of Beethoven's charming and witty Fourth Symphony.
As a part of WASO's ongoing commitment to new music, The Australian premiere of Richard Mills' Concerto for Violin and Clarinet will add a contemporary aspect to the evening's performance.
The ticket price for the concert also includes an exclusive viewing of the Raised by Wolves Exhibition. Ranging across historical, contemporary and indigenous photography, sculpture, video and painting, this exhibition provides a fascinating take on the history and present day state of the family as a dynamic generator of artistic practice. Entry to the exhibition from 6.30pm. Adult tickets $47. -- www.waso.com.au
