Should the U.S. Navy exercise four additional annual contract options, potential contract value of the C-9 CLS program could grow to approximately $230 million.
L-3 Link is responsible for overall program management for the C-9 CLS, encompassing aircraft depot, engine depot and site support at six U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force installations.
In its various configurations 24 medium-range C-9 aircraft provide the U.S. military with passenger transportation, cargo transportation and special missions support. Two C-9 aircraft also are operated by NASA to support microgravity researchers who are conducting studies in a reduced gravity environment. The C-9 fleet, built from the mid-1960s through the mid-1990s, eventually will be replaced by a fleet of long-range logistical support C-40A Clippers.
"L-3 Link and our industry partners, Goodrich Corporation's Aviation Technical Services division, Pacific Gas Turbine Center and Patriot Aviation Services, are well positioned to assume responsibility in providing uninterrupted contractor logistics support to the C-9 fleet," said David Williams, Vice President of Training Services at L-3 Link. "L-3 Link's experience in performing similar scopes of work over the past two years on the C-40A CLS and E-6 In Flight Trainer programs have provided valuable insight into how we can effectively support the C-9 fleet and bring synergies to the C-40 and C-9 programs."
In support of the C-9 fleet, L-3 Link will maintain site support staff at six locations, including Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, WA; NAS Oceana, VA; NAS Atlanta, GA; NAS Willow Grove, PA; Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC; and Scott Air Force Base, IL.
