
The mayor of Al-Dijelah, a small Shi'ite town south of Baghdad, was kidnapped and shot dead early today.
Police said the mayor was abducted near his home, and his body was later found along a highway.
In Al-Hillah, a mainly Shi'ite provincial capital, police said gunmen opened fire in three separate attacks throughout the city, killing three people and wounding at least four.
Meanwhile, the BBC today released a poll commissioned by several news organizations showing that only 18 percent of Iraqis have confidence in U.S.-led forces in the country.
