Archery bronze for India team

India's archers will carry home a men's team bronze after their quartet of Mangal Singhy, Tarundeep Rai, Jayanta Talukdar and Vishwas defeated Malaysia 211-207.

Slight drawback: Singh didn't get gold, but still celebrates bronze with his teammates

When Singh last stood on the Lusail Archery Range for the DAGOC Challenge test event in September he was confident of bagging gold at Doha 2006. But he will not be unhappy at bagging bronze given the strength of the field at the 15th Asian Games.

India are a growing force in world archery and more is to come from their competitors. Talukdar is ranked World No 5 for December, with the highly-promising Rai at No 26 - a slight slip in his recent ranking.

Singh actually beat his more illustrious colleagues to take individual gold at the DAGOC Chalenge test event in September.

Their victory against Malaysia on Wednesday 13 December was managed in the last three arrows, as they posted 9,9 and 10 compared to the Malaysians' 6,9 and 9. A 10 instead of 6 for Malaysia would have meant a tie and a shoot-off.
