The Palm Springs Art Museum is pleased to announce the acquisition of a Helen Pashgian cast epoxy and mixed media wall sculpture. The piece UNTITLED (Copper), 2006 was purchased with funds provided by the Contemporary Art Council and chosen from a selection of three Pashgian pieces, voted upon at a recent acquisitions dinner. The piece will become part of the Art Museum's permanent collection.

"Helen Pashgian, a sculptor associated with the California Light-and-Space art movement since the 1970s, has perfected her exploration of the perception of color, light, space and illusion," explains Chief Curator of the Art Museum Katherine Hough. "Her work greatly enhances the Museum's holdings in this period of art history. She was the only female artist associated with the group of artists that pioneered the use of industrial materials such as cast acrylic, glass, steel and polyester resin, creating technically and aesthetically innovative sculptures."

Helen Pashgian explores the perception of color, light and space between two and three dimensions. She restricts her vocabulary to clear and simple geometric forms. In UNTITLED, (Copper), 2006, sheets of metal cascade down like sheets of water. The dissolution of light into infinite space is a trademark of Pashgian's work.
