Kyrgyzstan's opposition For Reforms movement today handed a list of demands to President Kurmanbek Bakiev, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported. The demands include a call for continued constitutional reforms and the creation of a coalition government with the participation of the opposition.
Almaz Atambayev, a leader of the Social Democratic Party and a member of For Reforms, told RFE/RL that Bakiev found most of the opposition's demands justified. "He also understands the situation, the necessity of reforms to deal with the situation. Let's wait for a little bit. I think everything will end well," Atambayev said.
The movement says it will join another opposition group, the United Front for a Worthy Future for Kyrgyzstan, in mass rallies next month to call for early presidential elections if Bakiev rejects any of the demands.
