Russia's Richest Woman Wins Lawuit Against 'Forbes'

A Moscow court today ruled that "Forbes" magazine has defamed Russia's richest woman and ordered it to pay her more than $4,000 in compensation.

The court ruled that an article in the Russian edition of the magazine damaged the reputation of Inteko, the construction firm owned by billionaire Yelena Baturina, the wife of Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov.

A quote attributed to her in the magazine's December edition said, "My protection is guaranteed." Baturina says she was misquoted, giving the impression that Inteko is supported by state organs.

Baturina has consistently rejected allegations that her businesses have benefited from Luzhkov's influence.
