Maritime Park Offers Free Volunteer Docent Training Class

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is offering a free, three-day training class for those interested in joining the park's volunteer docent program. The training will introduce participants to maritime history, the park's historic ships and library, and the art of presenting public programs aboard the ships.

This course occurs on three consecutive Sundays: April 15, April 22, and April 29, from 10:30am-4:30pm. The course includes an additional eight hours of on-the-job training to be scheduled in May.

Learn the stories preserved by the park's collection of authentic 19th century ships, and chart a new course as a guide and steward of this unique "floating national park." Once trained, docents will share their knowledge with park visitors through educational programs and informal contacts.

Work is mainly outdoors, on the waterfront of beautiful San Francisco Bay. Volunteers at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park have free access to a variety of fun and interesting park activities, including regular sailing trips on San Francisco Bay. -- www.nps.gov
