Representatives from Germany and the five permanent council members -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China -- agreed Thursday on minor changes to the text.
Media reports say the six powers also rejected amendments proposed by South Africa this week. One of the amendments called for a 90-day "time out" in which sanctions on Iran would be suspended if Tehran halts uranium enrichment.
The U.N. resolution strengthens penalties imposed late last year on Iran for its nuclear defiance.
The United States and its allies suspect Iran is working to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran denies the charge but has given no sign it is ready to stop enriching uranium.
