Puppets, Marionettes, And Soft Sculptures At Walker Art Center

Families can take part in a day of fun at Everyday Wrap, the Walker Art Center's Free First Saturday event from 10 am-5 pm Saturday, April 7.

Featured events include an inventive theater piece by Kurt Hunter Marionettes; screenings of short films from the Walker collection; an art lab activity to make soft sculptures inspired by the work of Claes Oldenburg; an art lab activity to make puppets for an improvised group show; a story reading; and a gallery crawl to see ways that several artists have given new meaning to everyday objects.

Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Free First Saturdays are for Families!

Everyday Wrap: Saturday, April 7, 10 am-5 pm

Gallery Crawl: A New Spin, 10 am-2 pm: Find out about ways that several artists have given new meaning to everyday objects.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Soft Sculptures, 10 am-3 pm: Draw, stuff, and staple your way to a soft sculpture inspired by Claes Oldenburg's whimsical Three-Way Plug-Scale A, Soft Brown.

Performance: Sock Puppet Serenade, 11 am and 1 pm: Join Kurt Hunter Marionettes as they present an inventive, object-theater experiment for families.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Reinvented Roles, 11 am-4 pm: Repurpose a variety of found objects to make puppets with personality.

Performance Activity: On-the-Spot Fun, 11 am-4 pm: Bring your puppet creations to the Lecture Room to take part in an improvised group show.

Film: Surprising Shorts, 12 noon and 2 pm: Watch as inanimate objects come to life on the big screen in short films from the Walker's collection.

Story Reading: Comical Critters, 2, 2:30, 3, and 3:30 pm: These stories will tickle your funny bone and are sure to make you laugh out loud. -- www.walkerart.org
