While universally admired as a music theater luminary, Patti LuPone's career has included roles in film, television, opera and the recording industry as well. Known for her charismatic stage presence in such hits as Sweeney Todd, Evita, and Sunset Boulevard, she also recently made her Los Angeles Opera debut as Leocadia Begbick in Kurt Weill's The Rise and Fall of Mahoganny. Her Opera Colorado performance will offer a light, fun evening of her favorite songs from musical theater.
The 25th Anniversary season, marking Opera Colorado's third year in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, will open with this special gala concert one week prior to the opening night performance of La Traviata on November 9. Opera Colorado is proud to announce that two esteemed members of the Board of Directors, Kalleen Malone and Marcia Robinson, will serve as Gala Co-Chairs. Walter Isenberg, CEO of Sage Hospitality and his wife Christie will serve as the Co-Chairs of the Corporate Committee.
Opera Colorado founder Nathaniel Merrill and his wife Pamela, along with Lifetime Honorary Chair Ellie Caulkins will serve as Gala Honorary Chairs. The anniversary celebration evening will begin with an elegant cocktail reception and dinner in the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Immediately following dinner, guests will be escorted to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for the performance by Patti LuPone. Directly following the performance, guests will enjoy a festive dessert and dancing party at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Proceeds from the 2007-2008 Season Opening Gala will support the artistic, education, and community outreach programs of Opera Colorado, serving over 25,000 youth and adults throughout Colorado.
