A day of grand finals

As the 15th Asian Games draws towards its conclusion, there are many medals up for grabs on Thursday 14 December as 15 sports come to an end with a selection of mouth-watering finals on a bumper day of competition.

China once again dominate many of the team medal matches scheduled to be played, with their teams lining up in the women's basketball final against Chinese Taipei, the men's hockey and volleyball finals versus Korea and the men's water polo final against Japan.

There could be more good news for hosts Qatar at the Al-Gharrafa Indoor Hall as their handball team gets set to face Kuwait in the men's final scheduled for 18:00. While earlier in the afternoon, Japan will play either China or Chinese Taipei in the final of the softball competition at Al-Rayyan.

At the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, the women's tennis doubles final takes place with China's Zheng Jie and Yan Zi taking on Chan Yung Jan and Chuang Chia Jung of Chinese Taipei.

They will be followed later in the day by Korea's Lee Hyung Taik and Danai Udomchoke of Thailand - who will conclude the tennis competition by contesting the men's singles final.

Meanwhile, nearby on the squash courts, Malaysia will be hoping for a clean sweep of gold when Nicol Ann David plays Chiu Wing Yin of Hong Kong, China in the women's singles final, and Malaysia's Mohamed Azlan Iskandar takes on team mate Beng Hee Ong in the men's gold medal match.

Contact sports continue apace with grapplers holding their opponents down in search of a wrestling gold in the men's freestyle categories at ASPIRE Hall 4, while next door in ASPIRE Hall 3, the wushu competition comes to an end with a series of medal bouts.

Fencers will spend the morning aiming to qualify for the evening's women's team foil and men's team epee competitions, and qualification continues at the Hamad Aquatic Centre for the evening's men's and women's 10m platform diving finals.

Outside of Doha at the Measaieed Endurance Course, riders will head off early in the morning as the marathon 120km equestrian endurance event takes place with individual and team medals up for grabs.

Elsewhere, the canoe/kayak competition closes at West Bay Lagoon with a series of finals, Point, Keirin and Madison finals will be contested in the track cycling competition and chess concludes with the mixed team's classical Swiss, Round 9.
