Cycling pedals out with three finals

Three finals round off the Doha 2006 track cycling competition on Thursday 14 December: the men's keirin, women's points race and men's Madison final.

The action gets underway at 12:30 with the first round of the Keirin. A repechage, second round and final take place later in the day.

It looks to be an open field with Malaysia's Josiah Ng Onn Lam, who is an Asian Games sprint record holder and winner of the 2005/6 World Cup, likely to contest the medals.

Lam's teammate, Tisin Mohd Rizal, is also a 2006 Asian Champion, while Kang Dong Jin of Korea will look to add to his men's team sprint and individual 1km time trial bronze medals. Japan won gold and silver medals in the event in Busan so Hiroyuki Inagaki and Keita Ebine will also be in the hunt

In the men's Madison, all the medallists from the 50km road race are among the starters.

The road race winner, Wong Kam Po, lines up in Hong Kong, China's two-man team, partnering Cheung King Wai, gold medallist in yesterday's men's points final.

Men's pursuit gold medallist Park Sung Baek goes for Korea and silver winner, Medhi Sohrabi rides for IR Iran. Ilya Chernyshov of Kazakhstan will seek his second medal in consecutive days having won bronze in the men's points race.

Current Asian champion Li Yan of China will start as favourite in the women's points final. Li's teammate Wang Jianling, who finished behind Li in the 2006 Asian title and Korea's Gu Sung Eun, winner in 2005, will also fancy their chances.

Lee Min Hye of Korea, who struck gold in the women's individual pursuit, will also believe she can take gold.

The action starts at 12:30 in ASPIRE Hall 1 at Sports City.
