The Bill Lucas Quartet, led by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's very own Bill Lucas, a member of the trumpet section since 1988, makes its debut at Jazz Club @ The Max on Friday, April 13 with performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The concert, which takes place in The Music Box at the Max M. Fisher Music Center, will be recorded live and offered as a podcast by Jazz Stage Productions, available on demand.

Formed four years ago, the Bill Lucas Quartet has what founder Lucas describes as "a modern Blue Note sound," emulating trumpet greats Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis and Lee Morgan and their recordings on that famous jazz record label.

The quartet will perform a set of six original songs written by Lucas along with other material. Comprised of Lucas on trumpet, Peter Siers on percussion, Paul Keller on bass and Ellen Rowe on piano, the group has played at the Firefly Club in Ann Arbor and at the Macy's Day of Music Festival at the Max M. Fisher Music Center.

Born and raised in metro Detroit, Bill Lucas is an active member of the freelance, jazz and chamber music communities. He has appeared as a jazz soloist in many popular jazz clubs and nightspots of Vail, Colo., as well as at the Detroit and Montreux, Switzerland Jazz Festivals. -- www.detroitsymphony.com
