The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce the revival of concerts in the Crystal Palace Bowl in association with the London Development Agency and the London Borough of Bromley.
Every weekend during the month of August, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a series of popular classical events and hosting a selection of pop extravaganzas. Concerts to be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will include a wide variety of repertoire to cater for all musical tastes.
Crystal Palace Park is one of the most important nineteenth century urban parks in the country, containing significant remains from its original Joseph Paxton design with layers of history reflecting its changing use over the years. As a concert venue, the site offers an ideal location for picnic concerts with a contemporary stage and a gradually-sloping natural terrace.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's brand new series of concerts commences on Saturday 4th August with an Opera Gala evening featuring much-loved music from the finest operas ever written. On Sunday 12th August the Orchestra presents a thrilling selection of Tchaikovsky masterpieces, closing with a magnificent firework display to accompany the 1812 Overture. For all those James Bond fans, on Sunday 19th August the RPO brings you an evening of espionage with classic themes and songs associated with the world's favourite spy! Last but by no means least, Last Night of the Summer Proms ends the 2007 Pops in the Park classical series (Sunday 26th August) with all the pomp and circumstance and flag-waving opportunities you can imagine - and to conclude the series a spectacular firework finale.
Tickets will be released for sale at the end of March and will be available from Keith Prowse ticket agency (0870 040 0174) and local venues, including Fairfield Halls in Croydon, with premium tickets (including a deckchair) at £25. Tickets for the grassed picnic area will be available at £19.50, with a family ticket (a group of five people with at least one person under the age of 18) available for just £60. Early Bird discounts will be available until the end of May with special discounts available to local residents.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's concert series fits with London's Development Agency's vision to rejuvenate Crystal Palace Park as a modern metropolitan park fit for the twenty-first century. The concert series will help build on the Park's role as a cultural, education and recreational resource. -- www.rpo.co.uk
