You think you know the classic tale of The Elves and The Shoemaker, do you? Old man leaves out leather, elves turn it into shoes in the night? What about the elves? What were they doing making shoes? And what did they do after the shoemaker made them clothes? These important questions will be answered as Yorkshire's favourite storyteller Nick Lane returns to The Studio at York Theatre Royal with his own very special version of the much loved fable The Elves and the Shoemaker through 21 April.
Join Corky and Peeptoe, the weirdest elves nobody has ever met, as they take you on a journey you're not going to forget in a hurry. Hear how they were present at almost every major fairytale event ever written. In fact, they wrote most of them.
Nick Lane is adapter of this charming tale. His previous children's productions for York Theatre Royal have included Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Beauty & The Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as directing last year's York Theatre Royal critically acclaimed production of John Godber's September in The Rain. Nick is currently associate director at Hull Truck Theatre.
The cast of hundreds will be made up of two newcomers to the Studio at York Theatre Royal - Howard Gossington as Corky and Letty Butler as Peeptoe. Howard's theatre and television credits include Tom's Midnight Garden (Birmingham Stage Company) and The Basil Brush Show, whilst Letty Butler has appeared on television in Emmerdale and Jane Eyre on ITV.
The Elves and the Shoemaker is directed by York Theatre Royal regular Eamonn Fleming, who last year appeared as the wolf in Nick Lane's production of Little Red Ridding Hood. Eamonn is set to return later in the season to appear in York Theatre Royal's children's production of The Hare and the Tortoise.
Tickets for this eagerly awaited production for all the family are priced at £6.00 for adults and £4.00 for children. A family ticket for £16.00 is also available. -- www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
