The new products, which are fully managed layer 2/3+ Gigabit Ethernet switches and designed to handle the demanding requirements of a broad range of applications including military, telecommunications and commercial, are the Neternityâ„¢ RM921 6U VME switch; the ROHS-compliant Neternityâ„¢ RM922RC 6U VME switch; and the Neternityâ„¢ CP921RC ROHS-compliant PICMG 2.16 6U CompactPCI switch. All three switches support 24 copper ports, with the RM921 being optionally available with 12 ports, and are characterized by their support of IPv4 for legacy communications environments and hardware enabled IPv6 for future applications. (IPv6 is mandated by the US Department of Defense for all programs from 2008.) Conformal coating is an option for all three boards.
The three new products are the first in the Neternity family to feature the OpenWare switch management environment. OpenWare is portable across switch fabrics and processor environments, is easy to customize using the familiar Linux command line interface and is designed to make selected GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Neternity switches easy to deploy and easy to manage. Switch management is also possible via remote access or using a management protocol such as SNMP.
"Our line of fully managed IPv6-enabled switches brings cost-effective high-speed network connectivity a wide range of challenging applications,"Â said Rubin Dhillon, Communications Product Manager for GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. "With our experience, knowledge and design practices, we have crafted Neternity Ethernet switches that deliver exceptional performance while operating in demanding environments"Â - General Electric.
