Bus Bombing Kills 7 in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's authorities say at least seven people were killed Saturday when a roadside bomb hit a civilian bus in the island's north. A military spokesman says the attack occurred outside the town of Vanvuniya. He said six civilians and one soldier were killed and at least 26 other people were wounded in the blast.

The military blamed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels for setting off the blast.

The bombing was the second attack on a civilian bus in a week. On Monday, police said a blast ripped through a bus at a military checkpoint in eastern Ampara district.

The government blamed Tamil Tigers for the attack, which coincided with a Buddhist holiday. The rebels denied any involvement. - VOA News
