The government says the holidays are meant for the convenience of the eligible voters who need to travel to their respective constituencies for the polls on Saturday April 14.
The emergency public holidays have caught most Nigerians unawares and has delayed the Supreme Court ruling on the disqualification of Vice President Atiku Abubakar by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The ruling was scheduled for Thursday April 12 and has now been rescheduled for Monday April 16, just five days to the controversial presidential election.
The Action Congress (AC) has accused the PDP led government and INEC of deliberately declaring the untimely and unnecessary election holiday as a pre-emptive strike to subvert the sitting of the Supreme Court to stymie the progress of it's presidential flag bearer, Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The BBC, Thursday, reported that "the holidays have also prevented scheduled court challenges by aspiring candidates in state and governorship races - closing their last window of opportunity and making their cases effectively redundant."
The untimely nationwide public holidays are uncalled for and undemocratic, because the government has ignored and denied the democratic rights of the eligibile political aspirants and barred them from contesting the election on Saturday April 14, 2007.
Random reports from different regions say millions of supporters of the political aspirants who have registered to vote for them are protesting against the election holidays and many of them have vowed to disrupt the polls on Saturday. The voters in Rivers State in the volatile Niger Delta region have also dismissed the recent overtures of the PDP to deceive them to vote for the ruling party.
"The only way the PDP can win the elections is by rigging as they rigged the elections in 2003," said one of the eligible voters in Port Harcourt.
"The election holidays are absolutely ridiculous," said another person who did not give his name.
Many Nigerians condemn the unjustified and unwarranted public holidays declared by the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria.
Condemn Undemocratic Election Holiday?
Those million of Nigerian voters who accused of government of imppropriety should reconsider their assessment toward federal government efforts try to allow people travel to their home states to cast a vote for candidates of their choice. Nigerian should try resovle issues without result to violence, it deminished integrity of Nigeria nation as whole, stop bickering, don't always let deceiver betray you everytime they want something by you.
Nigeria can never developed if you let a wrong man rules Nigeria nation, a selfish person should not assume a presidency in Nigeria, corruption should be fought at any cost if means government crack down on all Nigerian crooks who embezzled public funds for their own ego and undemocratic leaders in Nigeria.
Dividend of democracy can only be sherished with all Nigerians only if we Nigerians stop corruption altogether, otherwise you're self to blame if you allowed corruptions to rein Nigeria nation indefinitely.
Other nations don't want Nigeria succeed at all, it's up to Nigerians to take a course in their own hands, some people say government should allowed those who've being indicted to participate in election, I wonder if those people would let any person who've served a prison term in their country would allow criminal to vote in general election, not really, but instead they want Nigeria government to let indicted person rules Nigeria therefore, he can bankrupt Nigerian's treasury and break the systems this would make them happy when Nigeria is broke and nothing develop. Please, don't let this happen to Nigeria.
