Wii has arrived in Europe! But hurry - massive demand means that stocks are sure to sell out fast.
Even if you're not able to get a Wii straight away, all is not lost. We're shipping a staggering four million consoles worldwide by the end of 2006 and six million by March 2007, with regular shipments arriving in shops through Christmas and into the New Year.
What's in the box?
If you're fortunate enough to secure your Wii, what will you get for your £179 / €249 (recommended retail price)? In the box is the Wii console, Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Sensor Bar, Stereo AV Cable, Wii console Stand (if you want to display the Wii vertically) and everything you need to get going. The pack also includes Wii Sports: a collection of five fun games such as bowling and boxing that are the perfect introduction to what Wii can do.
Wii Channels
Plus, built into Wii are the Wii Channels that bring you a variety of fun and information. Create your own in-game caricature in the Mii Channel, transfer pics from a digital camera and edit them in the Photo Channel, and even send messages to other Wii owners (and even PC and mobile phone users) with the Message Board. Soon you'll also be able to browse the web with the Internet Channel, check weather reports in the Forecast Channel and read the latest headlines in the News Channel, too.
Launch line-up
Also in shops now is a huge selection of Wii launch games including the eagerly-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Play, Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Need for Speed Carbon, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz. By the end of the year there will be around 24 Wii games to choose from.
Virtual Console
Starting today you can also download and play a selection of classic Nintendo, SEGA and PC Engine games with the Wii's Virtual Console; including all-time favourites such as Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario 64 and Sonic the Hedgehog. By the end of December there will be 36 Virtual Console games available, with more added on a regular basis.
Link your account
By linking your Wii Shop Channel account to your online Nintendo membership, you will be able to enjoy additional benefits in the near future. Not only will you then be able to purchase Wii Points in the Stars Catalogue, you will also get Stars for your Virtual Console purchases upon completing a small survey.
Accessorise!
A selection of Wii accessories is also available now, including additional Wii Remotes and Nunchuks, the Classic Controller for Virtual Console games, the Component Cable and RGB Cable for enhanced video quality, and Wii Points Cards for purchases from the Wii Shop Channel.
New Wii website
There's so much Wii-related news to take in today, that it's easy to lose track of it all. Therefore we've put together a new UK Wii site that has everything you need to know about the console, games, Channels, accessories, online features and more.
We hope you have as much fun with Wii as we had creating it. A new generation of gaming begins here!
