Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and the cities of Tateyama and Minami Boso in Chiba Prefecture announced today that they will jointly develop a new service to provide local tourism routes and information to drivers through Nissan's CARWINGS navigation system

CARWINGS is Nissan's original telematics service and is currently only available in Japan.

This project by the two cities is aimed at attracting more tourists by providing visitors with information about local attractions through real-time tourist information channels via the local website and other media. Nissan is working to expand localized services linked to a particular location through its CARWINGS system. The jointly-developed new service is designed to deliver high-value information to tourists and holiday-makers to the cities. Nissan plans to introduce this new CARWINGS service in August, 2007.

1. Tourist routes

CARWINGS will offer routes recommended by the cities of Tateyama and Minami Boso. The navigation-system will display various route options with different themed tourist attractions.

2. Real-time tourism information

Using the CARWINGS automated local information guide, the system will display tourist information in real time. In addition to local news, the driver can listen and find out about the many tourist attractions along the route, which is also displayed on the navigation system monitor.

Nissan will provide details of its CARWINGS-CASTING specification for delivering Internet information to its navigation systems, to expand the reach and encourage greater participation in the project. By using this spec to create RSS feeds, retailers and operators of tourist attractions can deliver higher-quality information through the CARWINGS Internet information channels to a wider audience.

Nissan will share more information with the public about the new system at the Tabi Fair 2007, set to open April 20 at Makuhari Messe - Nissan.
