Undeclared Allergens in Japanese Rice Crackers?

The Canadian Food Inspenction Agency (CFIA) gave an update on April 20th on the issue of undeclared allergens in certain rice cracker products manufactured in Japan by Sanko-Seika.

The previous public warning issued on March 27, 2007 has been updated to list additional products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people with allergies to egg, fish, milk, sesame, soy and wheat proteins not to consume certain rice cracker products manufactured in Japan by Sanko-Seika. The affected products contain egg, fish, milk, sesame, soy and wheat which may not be declared on the label.

The affected products are known to have been distributed in British Columbia and may have been distributed throughout Canada. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg, fish, milk, sesame, soy and wheat proteins.

The CFIA is working with importers of rice crackers manufactured by Sanko-Seika, Japan to have the affected products removed from the market place.
