This 1.5MHz switching boost converter features a wide output-voltage range (9-33V) and integrates a switching NFET into an ultra-thin-profile, molded leadless package (UMLP) that measures only 3 x 3 x 0.6mm. Smaller than SOT-packaged devices typically used in these applications, the FAN5336 offers more functionality including higher peak current (1.5A) than similar 1.0A devices, as well as excellent line and load regulation (0.2 percent) and high switching frequency (1.5MHz). As a result, the FAN5336 helps to minimize noise, heat generation and emissions in cell and smart phones, MP3 players, medical devices and many other portable applications. Additionally, the converter's high frequency allows the use of smaller components, helping designers maximize board space while easing design complexity.
"Fairchild's FAN5336 is an excellent choice as an all-purpose boost converter for a variety of display applications,"Â said Bruno Kranzen, Ultra-Portable Product Line director for Fairchild. "Designers will find this device especially beneficial in today's small LCD bias supplies and white LED backlight supply applications that require an input range of 2.7V to 5.5V.
In these designs, FAN5336 delivers 87 percent efficiency by providing at least 100mA load current into an output rail set between 9V to 21V, and 50mA current into an output as high as 33V."Â Kranzen continued: "Fairchild developed the FAN5336 to offer designers another option in our growing portfolio of integrated boost converter solutions that cover a broad range of applications. Other products include the FAN5331 and FAN5332 with 20V and 30V output voltages, respectively"Â - Fairchild Semiconductor.
