In Nigeria, when women strip naked to protest in the open, a horrible and terrible evil must have been committed. So when a sexagenarian native woman marched very stark naked on the streets of Warri last Wednesday April 18, 2007, people were petrified. She was swearing and cursing the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo for rigging the last state legislators and governors elections in Delta state.
The protesting women barricaded the way to the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) at Edjeba in Warri. But armed soldiers chased them away with horsewhips and drove them across the NPA Express Way. Two armoured vehicles were at the main gates of the DBS, but the stark naked old woman and the other half naked women were not afraid as they swore to continue with their public demonstrations until the PDP was sacked in Delta State.
Other women also marched half naked in violent protests in Ondo state in South Western Nigeria.
The President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has admitted that the state assembly and governorship elections were fraught with irregularities and called for peace to save Nigeria from anarchy.
