
American Conservatory Theater and ACT One are thrilled to announce that nationally renowned comedian, co-host of VH1's "Best Week Ever,"Â and creator of The Marijuana-logues Doug Benson will headline the 12th annual A.C.T. Comedy Night, a benefit for the ACT One Scholarship Fund. The Sunday, May 20, event at the American Conservatory Theater kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and raffle, followed by an 8 p.m. performance.

Doug Benson whose television credits include NBC's "Friends,"Â HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm,"Â and multiple appearances on CBS's "Late Late Show,"Â and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."Â He is a frequent contributer to the "Mr. Show with Bob and David"Â website, bobanddavid.com. He co-wrote and starred in The Marijuana-logues (a tribute to cannabis culture and riff off Eve Ensler's popular The Va ina Monologues), which had a year-long off-Broadway run at the Actor's Playhouse. Benson can regularly be seen on VH1's "Best Week Ever."Â
Past performers at Comedy Night have included comedians Robin Williams, Greg Proops, Will Durst, Jake Johannsen, Dana Gould, Mark Lundholm, Jim Short, Bill Rafferty, and sketch comedy troupes Totally False People, Kasper Hauser, and Killing My Lobster.
Founded in 1995, ACT One is a social and educational affiliate of A.C.T. Ranked as one of the top programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program was the first theater training program in the country not affiliated with a college or university accredited to award the master of fine arts degree. Functioning as the cornerstone of the A.C.T. Conservatory, which also includes the Summer Training Congress, Studio A.C.T., and the Young Conservatory, the M.F.A. Program currently trains 51 students in its three-year curriculum.
The third and final year of the program is designed to give students the opportunity to focus primarily on performing for a public audience. Past M.F.A.
