Phoenix Theatre Presents "Dream A Little Dream"

Michael Barnard, Producing Artistic Director of Phoenix Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, has announced that the world musical premiere of Dream a Little Dream, The Nearly True Story of The Mamas and The Papas will be performed May 9 through June 3, 2007.

"Phoenix Theatre, one of the longest running arts organizations in the country, is proud to be producing this musical premiere that salutes the legendary band, especially after Doherty's untimely death in January 2007," states Barnard.

Co-written by Doherty, one of the original members, and Doherty's best friend, Paul Ledoux, Dream a Little Dream follows the meteoric rise and fall of the 1960s era folk/rock quartet that took the country by storm and knocked the Beatles from number one on the charts. Called "musical pioneers" by critics, The Mamas and The Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. The show features such classic hits as California Dreamin', Got a Feelin', and Monday, Monday.

Barnard has cast Alisa Schiff, (2006 MAC Award Winner) as Mama Cass Elliot, Phoenix Theatre veteran Michael Sample as John Phillips, John Ashley Brown, as Denny Doherty, and Mishaela Faucher as Michelle Phillips.

The ensemble comprises Mark Stoddered, Dion Johnson, Jenny Hintze and Bobby Benton.
Phoenix Theatre's Barnard said, "Phoenix Theatre is thrilled to produce this piece not only for our audience, but for the many music lovers of the 1960s, and, of course, for Denny. Dream a Little Dream reminds us the very turbulent, yet creative, times in which these young musicians lived and it gives us insight into their desire to find that voice of the '60s as America wrestled with war, peace and changing times. The story of this group's quest to make an impact on their country is very powerful."

This world premiere musical event is slated to sell out its initial run with plans to extend well into the month of June. -- www.phoenixtheatre.com
